Professor Jack Golson, of the Department of Prehistory in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University, gathered most of these documents in 1990 for a paper which he was preparing on cultural policies in Papua New Guinea. The majority of the documents were originally accumulated by Douglas L. McIver, Assistant Secretary, Social Development Branch, Dept of External Territories.
